APPRENTICESHIPS IN ENGINEERING
Engineering is all about the development of change and coming up with ideas to make our lives and businesses run more smoothly. As an engineer you will be a practical person with an interest in coming up with new ideas and problem solving.
Here at Sigma 6 we are dedicated to innovation and this includes developing our workforce by training new staff, and upskilling existing employees. A Modern Apprenticeship Programme in Engineering lets people earn a wage and gain an industry-recognised qualification. Engineers constantly strive to make the world a safer, better, more comfortable and enjoyable place to live.
Sigma 6 offer a Modern Apprenticeship programme based at Tunstead & Hindlow Quarries in Buxton. Our programme leads to an NVQ 3 and BTEC National Certificate in Engineering. The programme runs for 4 years and during the first two years apprentices will study their BTEC National Certificate on a day release basis at a college of further education.
The training is expected to be structured along the following guidelines…
One week introduction to the Company and a minimum of 36 weeks off site training covering Foundation skills – NVQ level 2, Relevant PEO’s for the chosen discipline and on site training.
YEAR 2 & 3.
On site training at Tunstead & Hindlow Quarries, near Buxton, Derbyshire. During this period any specialised training required will be provided by outside companies.
Workplace assessments towards NVQ 3.
- Plant Maintenance.
- Control and PLC Programming.
- Electrical Distribution.
- Fabrication and Welding.
- Automation and Design.
- We also encourage our apprentices to study for their HNC.
